If you look good youll get the job, right? And if your website is attractive it will succeed. Well, not really. Once good-looking sites were also successful sites, but thats not the case anymore. Website design is not only art. In fact, only a third of it is art. Another third is science and the business end comprises the remainder of the site for any software development website. To get these three components in the right measure is a challenging job, for effectiveness, visual appeal and profitability must all be taken into account while fashioning the site. In this article Ill get to the nitty-gritty of effective web design.
Its About the Money: Unless its a charitable site, a website is all about business and money. Your site has to work well in order to earn money. Your business aims have to be met. It must communicate your brand image, generate leads and eventually get conversions. So its not only about good looks.User experience: While visuals were believed to be equally important, a long time passed before utility was given the importance it deserved. As utility gained attention, the need for ease in navigation, practicality and utility also gained in importance. Today all this is expected of a website. The real worry is user experience and positive results. With the huge growth of mobile usage, sites have to deliver on all devices – in a good way. But web design has failed to deliver on these counts in a way that would satisfy the customer. Technology threat: Lets face the facts. Technology is threatening the website design industry. Design tools are available that churn out better sites than amateurs can. CSS3 does a lot of the job that graphic designers used to do. If looks matter the most, then sites are ageing pretty fast. Design skills alone wont help you to survive. Here today, gone tomorrow: Trends in web design come and go like fashion styles. Whats terrific today may look commonplace and dull tomorrow. And nowadays changes take place within months and not decades like they used to in the past. The ui ux design agency industry is replete with stories of websites going out of style. For example, sliders were thought to be great; now they are not.Lack of testing: Test, test, test. Thats what you have to do consistently or your business will suffer. Make testing a design culture and test everything before making it live. Of course you will require sample sizes that are adequate enough to give you the best results like emails, landing pages and websites. To tests consistently you also have to keep on expanding your resources. You simply cannot make excuses for not testing for if you dont test, your conversion rate is bound to fall. The only way to know how your pages will perform is by conducting a test on them. Only if you measure will you get success. A great way to know how effective your website is, is to test it for conversions.
Summing Up
As weve seen in this article, mind-blowing visuals and designs will mean nothing if your website is not efficient and does not produce the desired results, which is to earn money and grow your business. A good website is one that converts well; its not meant to be a trophy that you will show off to your visitors or friends. It needs to function well and give the users a great experience. . Of course a website has to look good so that users are drawn to it. But if it looks good and does not function well, it will not be serving your business purpose.
