Posterior shoulder pain is a condition that affects the back of the shoulder. It can cause dull, aching pain or a sharp, shooting pain. The pain may radiate down the arm or up into the neck. Posterior shoulder pain is often caused by overuse of the shoulder joint. It can also be caused by a fall or other injury to the shoulder. Treatment for posterior shoulder pain includes rest, ice, and pain medication. Physical therapy may also be recommended.
