Registered: 9/27/2007 | posted: 4/28/2008 at 3:34:03 PM ET This is called the key signature, and it tells you what key the piece of music is in. This particular piece is either in E Major or C# minor.
What this means is that every F, C, G, and D in the piece will be sharp unless there is an accidental in front of one of those four notes somewhere in the piece. Hope this helps!
