Registered: 10/13/2003 | posted: 10/13/2003 at 8:30:43 PM ET I think I got 4/4 time, But when it comes to 6/8 or 3/4 and others I'm having a hard time understanding them. In 4/4 time there are 4 beats per measure but in 3/4 there are 3 beats per measure? does the measure change at all? Whats the differance please help me.

Registered: 8/22/2003 | posted: 10/14/2003 at 9:19:37 PM ET The top number tells you how many beats are in each measure. The bottom number tells you what kind of note gets a beat.
It sounds like you understand. When the bottom number is not 4, the quarter note no longer gets a beat. For Example in 3/8, there are 3 beats in the measure and the eighth note gets the beat.
