Registered: 10/5/2005 | posted: 10/5/2005 at 4:02:26 PM ET i get the basic concept of reading notes but i have a question about the clefs and counting. basically, the top number tells me how many notes per measure then that means like 4\4 then four per measure so what if there is like two sixteenths and an eight and to quarters, how do i count that? email me at lawrence.tickle@usmc.mil thanks

2 16ths =half a count
1 8th= half a count
2 quarters= equal 2 counts.
That adds up to 3 beats. You need another combination of notes and/or rests that add 1 more beat.
