| posted: 5/12/2005 at 3:34:28 PM ET i think what you might have is what we in the business like to call a "scratched flute." Lol, naw but really what kind of metal is it made of? I may not play the flute, but my many years of military service taught me how to clean the hell out of anything.

Registered: 5/26/2004 | posted: 5/13/2005 at 11:52:34 PM ET Most flutes are silver plated or nickel/silver plated. Scratches can occur with constant use of the horn. I do not know of a way to get out scratches without replating the entire horn. That would be expensive. If the scratches are fine a repairman may be able to remove or hide them by buffing with special rubbing compounds. I really think you should take it to a repairman. This is not something you need to attempt. Silver polish will remove the plating and cause further damage. How are the scratches getting there?
Normal playing should not do that.
