Foe instance, ""'for the longest time"", and ""I could care less"" no doubt are heard by you fairly frequently..but to me they make no sense at all. Just another example is ""homecoming queen'', which no doubt would have a far different meaning in Lancashire to that used in the US. It's surprising that you learn piano and are not familiar with these, although I know that Whole Note, Half Note Quater Note and Eighth Note are the terms used in much of the US.
