#beginquote# Thanks, Suzyq! My wife (lyric soprano) and I (tenor) are both vocalist; although she is the only one of the two of us who is a trained musician..... I'm actually a computer geek by trade! Vocalists are every bit as much musicians as those that play an instrument. They study and practice just as much, and they should be given the same respect that any musician is given. Unfortunately, this rarely happens, and things like "American Idol" are somewhat to blame. Shows like that promote the idea that any bum off the street that can hold a tune can become a singer. Well, I have no doubt that natural talent has something to do with it, but there is more to being a
musician
than natural God-given talent. I consider "American Idol" hopefuls to be more "entertainers/performers" than "musicians" (that's not to say that some of them may well be musically trained). It gives kids the wrong impression that they don't need to study and practice to become professionals, they just need their "big break". Just my opinion, though. I'm probably just jealous because they're making so much more than I am! ;) #endquote#
