#beginquote# While I disagree that the clrinet is a solo instrument and the oboe is not, neither is the clarinet easy to play nor an "occasional" instrument. Tone quality on clarinet is very critical and takes almost as much effort as the oboe. Oboe takes more. Clarinet professional are as engeged as oboe pros, and there are more of them when you consider that a standard orchestra will have 3 to 6 clarinets and only 2 oboes. A band may have as many as 24 clarinets and still only have 2 oboes. What's the definition of a minor 2nd? 2 oboes playing the same note. How do you get 2 oboes to play the same note? Shoot one. Why do clarinets put their horncase on the dash of the car? So they can park in handicap zone. #endquote#
