Who were the famous composers of the elizabethan era and what style of music did they write? What would a common music piece sound like at that time?

Actually, the Elizabethan Era (1558-1603) is considered the tail end of the Renaissance. For a good example of music of the pertiod, see Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. By far the most famous English composer of the time was William Byrd.
