The WoW WOTLK classic subscription number peaked in Wrath of the Lich King in 2009, so it's not a surprise that Blizzard will want to bring back the loved expansion after the popularity of re-releases of The original game version WoW WOTLK classic in 2019 and the initial expansion WoW WOTLK classic, in 2021. Since Burning Crusade Classic currently nearing the final phase of its content and the upcoming Dragonflight expansion set to release until 2023 so the idea of having Wrath of the Lich King Classic come out later this year to make up for that gap is perfectly logical. Similar to WoW WOTLK classic and Burning Crusade Classic, Wrath of the Lich King Classic will be included in WoW WOTLK classic's current subscription, at no cost.
Wrath of the Lich King introduced a variety of aspects and events to Blizzard's MMORPG that went to become iconic components of the game. These include Northrend, the world of Northrend and its most-loved Grizzly Hills zone, the final fight with Arthas on top of the Icecrown Citadel, in-game achievements including the profession of inscription and The Death Knight hero class, and much more. The original launch of Wrath of the Lich King required players to have a character of level 55 in their account to be allowed to create Death Knights, in the current release of Death Knight, players jumping into WoW WOTLK classic for the first time will not need to be able to create an account as a Death Knight on day one.
A key feature that was added in the initial Wrath the Lich King content cycle which won't be part of the Classic release will be the Dungeon Finder tool, an automated system that can assemble players to play dungeons according to their roles. In the course of this announcement Blizzard announced that Dungeon Finder won't be part of Wrath of the Lich King Classic. The re-release of the expansion will offer new options for customization that were not available in the initial version. Players can purchase within the game using gold. Blizzard will also offer an upgrade to level 70 characters for those who wish to be immersed with the game in time to play Northrend as soon as the expansion launches.
In the case of WoW WOTLK classic: Dragonflight, the expansion to the game's most recent version will launch "when it's done." This expansion introduces a completely new dragon race that can be played (that is simultaneously an entirely new class) and a brand-new area in the shape of Dragon Isles. Dragon Isles alongside a revamp of the existing systems, such as professions, talents and the game's UI.
