Hi

In my book about music theory are some music examples, the chords are above the staff.

Most of it I can follow but every now and then i see a chord like A/B.

Does this mean A chord with bassnote B??

This seems strange to me because there is no B in the major A chord. I have looked through the book but I cant find an explaination anywhere.

Regards
Nool

Well, I'm not sure about what A/B means as a chord symbol, but you can have a chord with an A and a B. It would be a 7th chord, meaning a chord with 4 notes, instead of just 3 (which would be a triad). This 7th chord's root note would be B. When you stack in 3rds, you get B, D, F, A, and those are your 4 notes of the chord. There's your B and A. I hope that helps somehow! If not, my bad :-/

Indeed an A/B is an A chord over a B bass.

Here is a very cool site which shows you how to play about any chord you will ever see (guitar and piano).
