I just got a violin for a present and am truly truly excited. The only problem is that I am a 24 year old male and I have very little understanding of how to achieve notes on my instrument. I kinda understand the basic concept of music in general.. especially after the good lessons... butI would like to hear your opinions. Can you guys recommend a good book or pointers? later

I'm somewhat of a violin beginner also, but I've been playing the cello for almost 7 years which got me a huge head start. My only problems are vibrato, and fluently reading the notes. So what exactly do you mean when you say you have little understandind of acheiving notes on the instrument? Is it the physical aspect of playing or is it reading the notes? I think a good, simple book to start learning is Essential Elements for Strings. I'm sure there are many more good or even better ones out there, but I started playing the cello with it and it worked very well for me. If you want to ask anything more specific I'll be glad to help some more.
