A triad is any chord with 3 notes. There are many types of triads. A root position triad is where each note is a third apart. Like C, E, G, and they scale up. In a first inversion triad, the bottom, or root note, is moved an octave higher. In a second inversion triad, the root is moved an octave higher, as well as the next note up, leaving the fifth at the bottom (in this case, G)
There are also major, minor, diminished, and augmented triads. These take a little more time to explain, and I already answered your question, so I'll leave it at that. Let me know if you want me to continue.
