There is an x symbol in a piano song, and the closest meaning I have come up with is that it means that the note that should be a sharp is going to be played as natural, is this correct?

Seems to be a "double sharp".

The symbol is indeed a double sharp. A sharp raises a note one half step. A double sharp raises a note two half steps (one whole step). www.ipracticemore.com
