I understand how to read music, but I'm not sure exactly which symbols are being talked about when I hear the words music notation. So I'm wondering what is music notation?

music notation is just a musicians phrase for how to write music so it can be read by anyone. The use of the the current 5 line/4 space/a-g pattern for writing music is called music notation.

Thanks. What state do you teach in? We're winding down in Arkansas. Spring Concert coming up, play for K/1st grade Friday and graduation.

I teach in New Orleans. I am just finishing up my first year of teaching and I teach 6th through 8th grade this year and I am taking over as the only band director at the high school next year. We have our concert on Tuesday, May 20th. Good luck closing out your year!
