I know the basics of reading a sheet of music but I don't "sight read" - I need help to pick out the melody. Is there an inexpensive tool - possibly a child's toy - that would help me sound it out? Thank you for any suggestions.

I think you are out of luck for an inexpensive toy.

There is one thing that pops to mind though. Try downloading a copy of Sibelius or Finale2008 and try using the scanning software to scan in the sheet music. You might then be able to play it back using the software. Unfortunately the full version of each product costs well over $300 unless you have an educational discount.
