I have a sheet of music On it a staff or Stave beginning with a treble clef then a flat and some notes of music. what effect does the sharp have to the notes on the stave/Staff

That is the key of F. The flatted note is a B flat, and wherever B is in the piece, it is played as a B flat, unless it is otherwise marked as a natural.
