Our oboes double on alto sax for marching band, so I'd guess that they're similar? Also, a few of our clarinet players play saxophone in jazz band, so I'd guess either of those would be a good bet to try.

Indeed, An Alto Saxophone can sound similar to an Oboe if the reed, ligature and embouchure is just right. An Alto can also sound similar to a French Horn also just matters on where you bite and again ligature and reed.

In my concert Band we often double the French Horns and trying to sound as round as possible.

I personally think it's unfair that saxophones aren't in an orchestra. I love classical music. I wish i could play in an orchestra without learning how to play a different instument. Also, My band director told me that Saxophones can sound like any instrument, not just oboe or french horn.

Your band director is wrong. The sax has a pretty distinctive sound, that is unlike any instrument. The soprano can sound remotely oboe like The alto tenor and bari are all pretty unique in sound. However it is a sound that does not blend well in an orchestra, plus the fact that any music written before 1830ish (sax invention) would not have a sax written in therefor would sound wrong with a sax thrown into the mix.

The Flute has the same fingering as the saxophone, but it is played differently.

The Clarinet is played the same but has different notes with the same fingerings as a saxophone.

There are a few options.

If you want to go into a totally different direction, bands and groups could always use more in the bass section

Some orchestras do have saxophones in them. But only a few.
