Eva Hmmmm...I agree with anonymous that the piano is not an easy instrument to learn...I am a beginner accordionist and (14 months) and the piano side is just as hard as the bass side....I started out thinking this instrument would be mastered fairly quickly...wow...how wrong I was....I am guessing 3 years to get the basics down...and then ...more work I am sure....

anyone ever tried a fife? that thing is very hard to play... but yes, this question is like asking "what is the best and worst kind of art to draw?" because then you would have every art critic, painter, and observer defining what is "hard" and what is "easy" for others. each artist will be have a style that they find attractive, and what they think is harder. everyone is going to be different with their talents, and some instruments will be easier or harder for others. the original question for this thread is very broad, and cannot have a definite answer... just personal opinions

banjo is difficult because of the complex fingerstyling and required speed, unless you just play chords and everyone hates a talentless hickey with an annoying folk instrument, lmao.
That's funny, right there. lol..

I'd say it depends on the person. I consider myself a "musical" person but I think I'm more suited to certain instruments.

For example I tried learning the drums for about a year but then started teaching myself guitar and found I was a lot better at it. Maybe its just because with guitar its fairly easy to get the basics, but then takes a lot longer to actually get any better. Maybe with drums its the other way round, and it takes a long time to start with but is then easier to improve at. I don't know. But I gave up drums after that, because I found I felt I was lot more suited to guitar than I was to drums.

I've played the flute for 9 years and I'd say thats a fairly easy instrument compared to many. The clarinet always looks a lot harder, although I've never actually played it.

String instruments look as if they could be learnt by anyone. I don't mean that they are easy to play but I imagine it would be easier to learn to become good at playing them, whereas with other instruments I think its more important to have a bit of a natural talent for them. Also I'd imagine that once you can play one you can probably learn any other one fairly easily.

Brass instruments look easy! I could be wrong, but they don't look hard to learn!

I really don't think piano's easy. I've always admired people who can play the piano. I now play a bit, but I've got a long way to go before I'd consider myself good at it!

Well in my band we have clarinets, trumpets, alto saxophones, a trombone, a tenor saxophones a bass clarinet percussion, flutes, and an oboe. From others, I've heard of tenor sax and trumpet being hard. When I first got my oboe, I was told it would be really hard to learn, but I think it's pretty easy.

Based on my experiences in my years of private music teaching, I may say that many of my students are having difficulties in learning the violin than the other instrument lessons that I offer.
