How does a sad tune in a major key sound different from a sad tune in a minor key?

The tonality of minor is different from Major. No matter what the mood of the music. Some people say that minor has that "middle eastern" sound. Think of the snake charmer music.

Even if the sad tune is in a major key, it will most likey contain minor chords in the melody's progression.
