What is the highest grade you can get for a musical instrument or voice? I often hear ppl mention they have grade whatsit for this or grade thingamy for that but unless you know how it works it is meaningless and I am fed up with guessing at how impressed I should look!

I also am not sure what you are asking. In Canada ( and I guess the UK) they refer to what year of school they are in as "Grade 7", etc. In the states most school reverse that and say "the 7th grade".
You can be in a music class as long as it is offered in your school.

Sometimes music is "graded" as far as the level of difficulty. Grade I being the easiest up to Grade VI being the hardest.

When musical groups go to competition they may recieve a "grade". This would indicate the level of performance they achieved. 1st Division being the best and 5th Division being the worst.

They may be refering to the grade they recieved in their class. A,B,C,D,F.

Grades are used by exanining bodies in most western countries as a way of assesing ability in students learning from private teachers, and range from Grade 1 which covers reading notes on the staff, note values and rests and other basic notation up to Grade 7 in some areas and 8 in others.
Regular examinations are held, and students pay a fee on top of tuition charges to sit the exam. The fee at the moment here is $AUD80.00.

Thank you Mags, yes that was what I meant, I am not sure why the confusion, the question made perfect sense to me! I didn't mention anything about school.
