When were not cooperating with him then he yells at us saying " If you don't want to cooperate then why don't you just quite band." Well when someone takes that advice and quites then he calls there parents and at school he'll ask for the student and yell at us saying " why did you quite" So he yells at us to quite and then he yells at us when we do quite. Thats why so many people quite band before the second concert. So after that story I kind of need help to get some students to join the band. I'm graduating this year and I was the oldest trumpet player this year. Since theres only 2 of us we're trying to get people to join the trumpet section. Can anyone give me suggestions on how I can get people to join the band. PLEASE

Apparently there is a problem, unless your school has a disproportionately large group of unruly students in the band, I would say the teacher may be at fault. We have a similar situation with two of our music teachers in our district. The parents and students both should file a complaint with the board of education or whatever entity is in charge of the school. It is the teachers responsibility to provide a quality education to all "interested" and "co-operative" students. Our band director is a wonderful teacher, and as a rule, has very few problems with the students. Demand better, because you deserve it.

If you really like playing the trumpet, than go for it. I wouldn't pay to much attention to your band director's yelling, he most likely just wants everyone to do their best.
I can't tell how many very good dance teachers I've had that pushed us to the limits and sometimes got a little loud and said a few things to us - but we loved to dance and knew our teachers only wanted the best for us. It's not easy to take but sometimes a teacher's "bite is worse than their bite." At least I think that's the way it goes. Did you mention that you are graduating? Hope you can convince the present members to stay put and that you can get others to join.
Maybe you can speak to the band director and ask him what you can do to improve and find a way to get him to "cool it". Since you are there, you will be the best judge of this approach.
Whatever you decide to do - all the best, keep us up-to-date.

Let me make a comment from a teachers perspective. I don't teach Band, because Bands here are community-based, such as Lions, Rotary, etc, and also Bands don't play at sporting functions, only in marching roles like public holidays, etc, so very few schools have then as an option. I do, however, teach Choir, and any music teacher will tell you that Choir and Band are the two hardest and most stressfull things encountered in a week of clesses.
""It is the teachers responsibility to provide a quality education to all "interested" and "co-operative" students. "" Indeed it is, and ""interested"" and ""co-operative"" will apply to 90% of students in any group. The other 10% can cause real problems.
Here, in Australia, music is mandetory for at least one period each week k-6 and for two periods years 7-10, which means that kids who are not interested in music are forced to at least attend class.
I would suggest the guy is working hard, and yells because it's the only way he can make himself heard over the talking and joking going on. I know I yell on occasion for just that reason.
Cut him some slack.
