If the I is the tonic the IV the subdominant and the V the dominant, then how do we call the II,III,VI and VII??

Iam very curious about it so please let me know...

Best regards

Hi,

Thanks for your answer!
I undertand them but one.

The last one: VII sub tonic or leading tone

Does that mean that VII can be either the sub tonic or the leading tone or....?

If so how can such an unstable chord like the VII be a sub tonic? While a tonic should be stable.

Please let me know....

Best regards
Nool

yes VII ...can be called either...and as far as function...the VII is in the dominant categpry.....actually if you take a VII chord and add the 5the scale degee...it turns into a V chord with a 7th... a dominant 7th
