I am learning the clarinet and alto sax...do you know where I could download some free fairly easy jewish stuff? I am looking to buy some sheet music as well....but I am trying to find some in England.....rather than work out dollars and a large p and p cost.Thankyou for your help.

Welcome to the site.
Did you try to google Jewish Music - there seems to be lots to choose from. There's a wealth of Jewish Music - I wonder if your teacher can help and here is what may seen to be a crazy idea - maybe if you ask the musical director of a Synagog he/she would be happy to steer you in the right direction.
Hope this helps some, sorry I don't know where to direct you. Sometimes just going to a music store and mentioning your interests can lead to answers and you might meet a fellow traveler. Keep in touch.

I did put a variety of phrases in my search engine but was inundated with american sites....even when I put search uk only. I did laugh at the synagogue mention. Being Scottish...and living in a small town in England...I have never seen a synogogue in my whole life. I saw some Jews in London when I visited there....but you don't see many round these parts ( I mean the ones ..orthodox jews?)...Anyhow....I have finally discovered that I need Klezmer. I hadn't a clue when I went to one website and saw subtitles of Hebrew Yiddish Klezmer...etc...it really means nothing to me. I don't know anything whatsover about Jewish people or their religion...however...I have ordered some books with a c.d....so I shall hopefully enjoy that...Thanks again, Margaret

I was just tossing out a bunch of ideas - you really don't need someone who is Orthodox, Jewish music is just that music.
England is a very beautiful country and has some very pretty small towns. Guess it's universal, sometimes it's hard to get information unless you are near a large city.
Wish I could offer more suggestion, I once heard a Klezmer band on PBS - Public Broadcasting Station - I'm not sure if band is the proper name - and only stayed tuned for about 15-20 minutes.
When you get a chance, let us know how things are going.

Yet another one of my brainstorms, are you near a library? The librarian might be able to get Jewish music for you through interlibrary loan or maybe your branch may have some music.
If this works, it's free and you can xerox what you like for your own use.
