Whether to switch to trombone or stick to trumpet. If I choose trombone, I will get a spot in Symphony band next year. I don't know which instrument has higher rank. At the same time I am also thinking, that when I will be in High school, I will keep trumpet.
I am confused and cannot make decision.
Can somebody help me look thru?

I am also in junior high and have been playing the trumpet for 5 years. I am in the concert band and our band does not have a lot of trombone players. When i first joined band I did want to play trombone but sadly I was to short to even extend the slide. But last year I was thinking of making the switch to the trombone because we didn't have any begining trombone players. But That year there was there were 7 trumpets and we were graduating 4. So that leaves me and two beginers. I knew instantly that my band director will not let me be a trombone player because he needed me in the trumpet section. As for highschool I'll most likely being tenor saxophone in the jazz band because the highschool that I will be atending does not have a trumpet section. The school told me that i could still play trumpet but I'll be the first and only trumpet player so I 'm kinda freaked out about that. So in short Just pick whichever one you like more. If the trombone is what you want, but I still say that i like the trumpet better

Sometimes you have to sacrifice for the better of the band...if it really needs another trombone a noble thing to do would be step foward and change. On the other hand: I'd rather get my teeth drilled than march with a trombone...but you didn't say anything about marching so this may not be an issue.
Talk it over with your teacher, too.
