I began clarinet when I was in grade 5...I wanted to play the flute but my little arms were too short By the time they were long enough to play flute I was hooked on clarinet. I agree- kids learn insturments easily at that age, and also its better to let him go with what he wants and will enjoy.

I almost have the exact same problem as you. You see when I joined band I was in fourth grade and I wanted to be a Tromebone Player. Sadly I was shorter then the trombone and my little arms were to short to extend the slide. Well since I still wanted to be a brass player I chose the trumpet and now I'm hooked on it. Some days I wondered if "I Was a trombone player how would our band sound today"(We only have 2 trombone players) Well in short I still believe that the trumpet is one of many instruments that are esy to play.
