What are your goals - there are many good conservatories and schools with good music programs.

Peabody in Baltimore, Juilliard, Mannes, Curtis Institute just to name a few and at this hour all I can think of - but there are other fine institutions. If you are taking music lessons, maybe your teacher can help you. Good luck and keep in touch.

I'm a senior in high school right now. I'm hoping to go to a good music college. I am taking private lessons, but my teacher just knows a lot about schools in this state. I'd like to look at a lot of options before i decide on staying in state. Later i hope to become a band director or a theory instructor.

Hi,

You may not want to tell us what state you live in, but there might be a good school in right in your own backyard.

There a many good Conservatories out there and many Universities good programs and have websites for example - I just Googled Curtis Institute of Music and there's a wealth of information- the admissions email address is admissions@curtis.edu - it can't hurt to contact them and just as you wrote us.

It's a good idea to contact and get information from a variety of schools and than pick a few that have the type of program you are looking for. Does your school have a band or orchestra, maybe the director can help. I'm familiar with the schools in the North East since that's where I live, but as I wrote earlier, there a many good schools out there - hope this helps a little. Many schools require an audition. Let us know how things go.

You might speak with your college counselor, tell him/her exactly what you are looking for - what you've written here. Some are better than others, and I know you know the answer to that. Hope this helps and that one of our great teachers will pitch in with their excellent advice. Let us know.

Depends on where you live. I know of several good music schools. They may be too far away for to attend.
