I am in the fortunate position of being the musical director of a school, which means I design each Term Syllabus for kids from Kinder to 16 or 17.
Each term I try to choose a Theme which involves all the school ( last term we composed a school song ) and for Term 2, which starts next week, here, I have a program on Gospel, in which each student and staff member composes a verse.
The Gospel song will be performed in Term 3 on our Open Day (it's a boarding school).
The format will be
Three lines the same, and the 4th different.
Perhaps Don or some others may be able to come up with a few verses for those kids and staff who just can't compose a thing..and there are more than you think.
An Example of the metre, fast, and format is:

""My Lords getting us ready for that great day..
(repeated three times)
There"ll be trumperts sound on that day..""

Pete, I hope this is a help. There'll be trumpet blasts on that day, I don't want to be the sheep whose gone astray, I pray that He'll come for me on judgement day. Good luck, Don

I am intwersted in learning to distinguish the difference between all the different musical key signiatures. Does your site contain any of this info, since I compose music, and don't have a good background in reading music? Thanks, Don

You can maybe incorporate Joshua and the trumpets that brought dow the walls of Jericho, Or trumpets tha signaled the Hebrews leaving Egypt. The trumpet seems to jump out as the main theme in your peice. No other lyrics come to mind for me right now, but maybe the class can kick around the trumpet thing. Good luck, Don.PS, if anything else pops into my head, I'll post it.

Had the first run of the Gospel Composition Competition yesterday, and the High School kids did fine.
Tomorrow the K-6 classes try.
Hmm, interesting lisp you have, Don...

Hey Pete, are you familiar with the Australian folk group called Fruit? They will be performing in Bethlehem Pa, which has a ten day festival called "Music Fest" during the first two weeks of August. We go down every year, it's really great. There are music venues throught the downtown area, including venues on the main street. Any info you may have about the group would be cool. A few years ago, there was a group called Brother from Australia, and they were very good. In fact, we bought a didjuriedoo from the band. (I don't think I spelled that correctly). It sounds like your composition is doing good. If you get stuck for lyrics or ideas, let me know. I'm always glad to help, even though it's kind of tough without hearing the music or the tempo. That's all I have for now, Don
