If I want to play the tenor or bass parts of a musical selection from a Hymn Book(for example) how do the notes correspond to classical guitar fret board?

The Treble part is the part you play on guitar. If there are only chords in the notation, the top note of the triad, etc, will give you the melody line.
The C on the third space up (F A C E ) is the 1st fret on the 2nd string.
