While I'm not discouraging your ambition, I get the feeling that you expect this to happen quickly. It doesn't work that way. The groups you mention all worked for YEARS to get where they are. It did not happen overnight. Each player in each group learned to play thier instrument seperatly over a long period of time, then at some point they got together and started working as a group.
As I said we cannot tell you what to play. Get with a teacher or musician you know and work with them to hone your craft. Then go from there. Good luck.

you could do lead vocals and lead guitar of backing vocals and lead guitar or drums and vocals or anything really. if you are better at two of them, obviously depending on which they are, you could do two like i said. ash have guitar + backing vocals and lead guitar + lead vocals and drums + backing vocals so you could mix but everyone is right you need to practice and stuff. try to do vocals and bass or vocals and guitar just mix around and see what you like, can do, and feel comfortable with!! good luck!
