I am a trumpet player and I love it but I would also like to learn to play the piano. I'm in 8th grade and I don't know weather its a good idea to take piano second. most of my friends took piano before they started learning their other instruments. It seems kind of backward to learn piano second. I also don't want to jeopardize my brass playing by spending more time with piano.
Long thread< I know but I have just one more concern. Piano seems to be a more solitary instrument. One of my favorite things about the ensembles that I'm in now is the group asthmophere. Are piano's ever included in bands/orchestras ect??
Thanks for the advice you guys!!!

Learning to play piano will enhance your trumpet playing. Yes, you will need to allocate time for practice for both, but many players do this so it is not that difficult.
As far as the ensemble part of playing. Learn jazz playing also and try to play in your school jazz groups on piano. That way your piano playing is enhanced by playing in a group and you are playing your trumpet with the ensemble of choice.
