i am 40 years old and would like to play a musical instrument at home. i am not sure which one to choose and how to start

1st decide what you find to be an interesting instrument. Consider the cost. Find a private teacher. That could include a good high school band or orchestra student. It doesn't need to be a professional teacher. The effort involved in playing an instrument varies from instrument to instrument. Go to a music store and let them help you look and play around on various instruments.

that's something for you to figure out. what might be interesting to you mught bore me to death. and vice versa. as i said you need to go to a music store let them assist you. this really cannot be done ovewr the internet. we can't tell you what you might like or enjoy. only you can.

If you live in an appartment , I don't suggest the trumpet or drums..lol
