Wrong. While the sound of the piano is made by the plucking of strings within, the piano is considered a percussion instrument. Even stringed instruments such as violins, cellos, etc. are considered percussion when, and only when, they are being plucked. Any instrument that causes a sound by striking is considered percussion.

Not to be too picky, but a piano is not plucked like a harpsichord, but struck with a hammer. This is what makes it a percussion instrument. It is also a stringed instrument as the vibration which produces sound is created using a string.
