In Italian called cornetto and in French cornet. Transformation of a posthorn. As Es-toned it is largest of present brass instruments. Cornet was developed in France in 1820 and became famous in military bands.

Hope that helped in start.

The cornet is in the trumpet family along with the various form of trumpet and flugalhorn. It is a conical bore instrument where the trumpet in cylindrical. cornet has a mellower sound than trumpet because of how it is made. Conical means that it gets slightly and gradually larger from the lead pipe (where the mouthpeice goes in) to the bell flare. Cylindrical stays the same size from the lead pipe to the bell flare. The word cornet is based on a early form of brass instrument.
