Personally, i would put some music on my headphones, see what drum roles occur in the music, And take what you can from it...or even jam with it!

I might not be the best person to give advice but I just landed my first successful roll!!
One thing I might suggest (if my technique is correct) is to tense your arms. Maybe I'm doing this very poorly but I find I get better results with stiff biceps.
I learned on a practice pad. I don't have a kit at home.. just sticks. So it makes it very hard to practice whenever i like. But if you have the ear, when the roll happens, you'll hear it and know you at least got it partially right lol
Whoever that 13 year old was.. look. You're 13 so I'll go easy on you. You're just starting your life. Don't go into it being a miserable know it all. Unless you don't want any friends, success or respect. You've already lost that here. Don't do it again, for your own good. (I figured that out by the time I was 13... you must really suck.. see doesn't feel very nice does it?)
