#beginquote# You could probably do some research and find more information. The C is in the middle of the two staves. Treble and bass. the top line of bass is A the bottom line of treble is E. So be is the space above A then middle C then D above C then E on the treble clef. As to why, I can't really say. The early forms of notation were so far back in history that no one knows the true reasons. It's in place and how it's done. It won't be changed in our lifetimes. #endquote#
