#beginquote# For a novice somethings are difficult to HEAR in music. some are not. I the music starts to slow down that is a ritardando (ritard) If the music speeds up that is an accelerando. I f it get quieter that is a decrecsndo or diminuendo. If it gets louder it called crecsendo. If you feel the beat or pulse of the music you should hear where the beat tends to start ona part of the melody. That is the downbeat. The up beat is simply the beat before the downbeat. Triple an duple are a little harder. If the song has a bouncy waltz type feel to it, it is triple. Triple means it has a 3 beat feel to it. almost anything else is duple. Motive if simply a short musical phrase. #endquote#
