#beginquote# That is a "normal accent". It indicates a "moderately sharp attack that can be used at any dynamic level from pianissimo to fortissimo." Essentially, you want to strike your instrument harder and with more emphasis, but not make the note any shorter. This is the same notation that you will see in music for any instrument, as this symbol is universal in western music notation. #endquote#
