#beginquote# 8va means to play an octave higher or lower (the music will tell you which). an octave is the same note name 8 notes higher or lower. It is written this way sometimes to avoid writing the music on a bunch of ledger lines, which can get tedius at times. Piano music written with both staffs in the treble clef means that the left hand (normally bass clef)is playing notes in the lower end of the treble clef. Again to avoid writing lots of ledger lines. The right hand is probably playing at the top or above the treble clef. #endquote#
