#beginquote# It's not because they are louder. Actually, often times they are softer than the other sections of the orchestra. They play on the bass cleft, which makes them sound strong. Turn your radio on and turn the bass off (there should be a knob that allows you to do this. If not on your home radio than definitely in your car.). The music now sounds empty and shallow.
