#beginquote# When an instrument (any instrument) is out of tune the tuning constant (piano, keyboard, tuba, synthesizer) there will be vibrations created because the sound waves do not match up. Some refer to these vibrations as "beats" or "waves". What is important is not if you know you are sharp or flat, but the fact you hear the "out of tuneness". Move your tuning mechanism. If the beats get faster, you moved the wrong way. Go the other way. If the beats get slower, you are moving the correct direction. Keep moving until the beats are no longer there. You are in tune. #endquote#
