#beginquote# If it is for a second verse then my guess is that the other verse has a two syllable word in that spot instead of just a one syllable word. For example, "High" in the first verse and "High-er" in the second. The note in parenthesis could mean that "High-er" should be played as two eigth notes with the c on the first syllable and the f on the second.
