#beginquote# The reed in the sax's mouthpiece vibrates when blown on. This vibration moves a column of air through the rest of the instrument. Different pitches are played by changing how long that column of air is.. that's why the keys are placed at different lengths on the sax's body. (If the air travels longer.. ie all the keys are pressed.. the sound is lower pitched.) -Kevin Webmaster of DataDragon.com #endquote#
