#beginquote# Growing up with my Mother as a Methodist church choir director, and visiting other churches, I have found that if you are looking for congregational participation, that the methodist model of turning up the organ, singing hymns that are simple to learn, easy to sing and in medium tessetura, a lot of people will participate. Most untrained people will enjoy singing if they think that no one can hear them, at least not that well. I taught music in a Catholic school and found that when the church chose Vatican II folk songs that had syncopation and not easily learned tunes, that few people sang, but when they chose old hymns that people knew, many more people sang. #endquote#
